On Behalf of | Aug 27, 2020 | DUI/DWI |

A woman is facing manslaughter charges among others after the death of a motorcyclist in Largo, according to local sources. The woman was arrested the night of Aug. 22 after the accident that claimed the life of an unknown person. She is now facing DUI/DWI charges as well as manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crime.

According to the limited information in the report, it appears the woman was driving in the area of South Missouri Avenue around 10:40 when the accident occurred. The woman, reportedly driving an SUV, apparently changed lanes rapidly at a high rate of speed, striking the motorcyclist and his vehicle. He was thrown from his motorcycle and was later pronounced dead. The woman reportedly fled the scene.

She was later identified by witnesses to the crash and arrested. It is unclear whether the police conducted roadside sobriety testing at the time, but they arrested her on the scene. She now faces DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of a deadly crash charges. There is no word as to whether she remains in police custody, or if she has retained criminal defense counsel at this time.

A DUI/DWI charge, especially if it is connected to the death of another person, can be extremely serious and have long-lasting repercussions for the accused person, even if the charge does not result in a conviction. If it does, she could face fines, the loss of her license and even jail time. This is why she will be represented in Florida court by a qualified attorney who will work to build a compelling case in her defense, while the burden of proof rests with the prosecution.
