The crash happened during the afternoon hours on Poinciana Boulevard. According to reports, a car traveling northbound crossed over the centerline of the roadway and began traveling in the southbound lane. Reports said the car violently collided head-on with an oncoming sedan. Reportedly, the driver of the sedan and her three grandchildren were all seriously injured in the crash.
Tragically, the driver and her 5-year-old granddaughter were pronounced dead a short time later at a local hospital, authorities said. The other two grandchildren were taken to a children’s hospital with serious and critical injuries. Reports said the driver and passenger in the other car suffered injuries that are not life-threatening. The crash remains under investigation and police said it is unclear what caused the driver to drift into oncoming traffic.
