Brain injuries can affect victims long-term

As Florida readers are aware, the impact of a car accident can last for months or sometimes years. This is especially true for individuals who experience some type of brain injury in the accident. Depending on the severity of the impact and various other factors, head trauma can affect a person's ability to do normal tasks and enjoy a certain quality of life.

Brain injuries are all different, and the way one could impact a person depends on the location of the impact, the victim's health and more. A recent study revealed that most people who suffer relatively minor brain injuries do not get any additional medical care after the first visit to the emergency room. This means that victims could be dealing with continued pain and other side effects without the appropriate medical support.

A concussion is one of the most common types of brain injuries suffered by people who were involved in car accidents. While common, this type of injury can have a severe impact on a person's life, yet this study found that just 52 percent of people who suffered moderately serious concussions sought appropriate follow-up medical support. There are many factors that could lead to a person declining to seek additional care, including the cost of medical care and the complexity of the health care system.

If a car accident caused by the reckless or negligent actions of another person is the reason for a person's brain injury, the accident victim has the right to seek financial compensation. Through a personal injury claim, a Florida accident victim may be able to secure necessary support for additional care. This includes post-concussion care and other types of support.
