A 31-year-old Florida woman was arrested on drug charges during a traffic stop in Citrus County on April 22. According to authorities, she was hiding marijuana, methamphetamine and Xanax in a body cavity.
The woman, who is a convicted felon, was a passenger in car Citrus County deputies pulled over for a moving violation near Rock Crusher Road. Deputies said they found a bullet in the vehicle, and the suspect claimed someone gave it to her. Authorities then asked if she had anything else illegal in her possession, and she allegedly confessed to hiding drugs in her vagina. She was arrested and taken to jail.
At the jail, the Crystal River resident turned over a clear plastic bag containing 2 grams of methamphetamine and two Xanax bars. She also turned over a second clear plastic bag filled with 6 grams of marijuana. She was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, one count of possession of marijuana and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. She is being held in jail on a $15,000 bond. The driver of the car was not charged in the incident.
People who have been handed drug charges could face significant jail time and steep fines, particularly if they are repeat offenders. However, a criminal defense attorney could develop a strategy to get the charges reduced or dismissed. In some cases, a challenge could be made to the search that led to the seizure of the drugs as being conducted without probable cause. If successful, then the attorney could move to have the evidence declared inadmissible.
