Three Florida residents facing drug charges

On Sept. 16, two men and one woman were taken into custody in Florida on drug-related charges. The woman and one of the men had been under surveillance for nearly a month.

One of the men sold opiates to undercover investigators on Sept. 15, and on the following night, he sold them synthetic narcotics. The two men are facing charges of possession of synthetic narcotics with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a specified area and sale of synthetic narcotics within 1,000 feet of a specified area. The man who sold to undercover investigators is also facing a charge for sale of opiate or derivative within 1,000 feet of a place of worship.

The woman sold drugs to undercover investigators twice on Sept. 16 and was taken into custody at a motel where authorities say all three of the individuals were staying. She is facing charges of possession of synthetic narcotics with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a specified area, possession and use of drug paraphernalia and sale of synthetic narcotics within 1,000 feet of specified area. Authorities report that the three were quiet and cooperative.

Drug charges can be serious, and those who are facing them may want to consult with a criminal defense attorney as soon as possible. Depending on the situation, there may be options for reducing the charges and sentence or even for having the charges dropped altogether. For example, it may be possible for an attorney to negotiate a plea bargain in which the client would plead guilty to lesser charges and receive a lighter sentence. An attorney might also look at the circumstances in which authorities conducted the search in order to determine whether it met constitutional muster. If not, the evidence obtained could possibly be ruled inadmissible.
