Authorities locate, charge man with murder in Florida case

According to news sources, a third person has now been taken into custody in connection with the stabbing death of a Ft. Lauderdale resident in August 2014. Sources report that BSO's Fugitive Squad successfully tracked the at-large 24-year-old man to an undisclosed location, and he was apprehended on Dec. 22. Previously, a 23-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were each served warrants on Nov. 17 for the role investigators believe that they played in the murder.

The 24-year-old is now facing a charge of first degree murder with no bond. According to records, the man has been taken into custody several times on a variety of charges since 2005, including battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, violation of probation, robbery with a firearm, and possession of cannabis and cocaine. It was not clear if the man was convicted of any of the previous charges.

The murder in question occurred on Aug. 2, according to police. Shortly after 8 a.m. that day, firefighters discovered an unconscious man in a burning Broadview Park duplex. Reports indicate that the man had been stabbed multiple times. Sources did not reveal what evidence led investigators to identify the charged man as a suspect in this case.

Although the man's prior criminal record coupled with state and federal government resources might make a murder conviction seem likely at first glance, all Florida residents who are accused of a crime are entitled to the opportunity to defend themselves against the charges in a court of law. If there are deficiencies in the prosecution's case, it is possible that a skilled criminal defense attorney might be able to negotiate a plea deal for the client. Depending on circumstances, the attorney may be able to successfully argue for reduced charges, an acquittal or even a dismissal of the case.
